As a leader, you need to be the visionary that uses tried-and-true techniques to turn dreams into reality. Take a day, go away, and put your dreams on paper. Write out exactly what you want your business to look like, feel like, and do for you. Write out your specific financial goals, and determine the resources (time and money) that you are willing to allocate.

Once on paper, reassess your vision to ensure that it is attainable. (Even if you are confident that it is!) Defend your vision on paper. Write out why the vision is realistic and how it will fit in with your values and culture.

If they arrive feverish and sweating for the interview, you can politely ask them if theyre OK, and avoid shaking hands with them, but thats it. Do you really need that lawsuit?

Roger Federer continued his serene progress at the US Open to remain on course for a showdown with the man who ended his amazing run of 23 Grand Slam finals.

Federer overcame strong winds to beat France’s Paul-Henri Mathieu 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 in one hour and 39 minutes and is yet to drop a set in three matches at Flushing Meadows.

The five-time champion is looking to reach his seventh straight final in New York and regain the title after losing to Argentina’s Juan Martin Del Potro a year ago.

Now he looks set to face Sweden’s Robin Soderling in the quarter- finals, the player he lost to at the same stage of the French Open this year.

Speaking after his win over Mathieu, Federer said: “I thought the first set was the key. He has some serious talent. We came through the juniors together and he used to toy around with me. I got a bit lucky in the first set, he had the first break point at 4-3 and after that I was able to break him back and maybe break his will a bit.”

Soderling needed five sets to edge past Austrian qualifier Andreas Haider-Maurer in the first round, but has since dropped just 16 games, the fifth seed beating Thiemo De Bakker 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 yesterday in just an hour and 42 minutes.

I believe that most people do not like change because they either don’t know how to respond to it or they respond poorly.

One way to think about this is that change is like waves on the beach. Just like change, waves are relentless and can be powerful, and there’s really only three things you can do with a wave: Let it knock you down, survive it or ride it.

Let’s take a closer look at each of these three ways to handle change.

We let the waves of change knock us down when we take what I call the dead roach approach to change – flat on our back, feet in the air and just out of control.

You can tell you are taking this approach when you say things such as:

“I’m so stressed out!”

“I can’t take this!”

“This isn’t fair!”

“Why does this always have to happen to me?”

Doesn’t surviving change sound like a good thing to want to do? Though in a few cases it’s really the only thing you can do, it really isn’t the optimal approach to take.
